Nigerian Government Obtains List of 500 Elite Tax Defaulters
This revelation was made by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun during the National Executive Council meeting on Thursday, 23 November 2017.
According to the Minister, these persons have property and trusts abroad which may not have been disclosed to the tax authorities. She revealed that the Federal Government may not be pursuing the prosecution option, at least, not just yet. The Minister revealed that the Federal Government will invite the tax defaulters to come forward and declare their assets fully, and correct their tax returns in line with the on-going VAIDS programme.
At NEC Meeting today I informed Council that we have compiled a list of about 500 Nigerians who own property & trusts abroad, and are believed to have under-declared these assets. We will be writing to them to take advantage of our Tax Amnesty, @VAIDSNG — open until March 2018.
